Second Amendment

Question:

Do you have any published information on your stance on 2A rights and other gun control issues? -Daryl, San Ramon

Answer:

Daryl, I have nothing published on this yet. However, the eighth priority listed on my homepage is “Protect free speech and personal liberties.” The Second Amendment is one of those liberties.

I am still thinking critically on how to protect gun rights while simultaneously reducing gun violence (especially gang-related violence in inner cities) and mass casualty events (which often involve mental health issues), and will publish a more extensive platform later.

However, here is a quick summary of my current stance on 2A:

  • I support gun ownership by law-abiding citizens. After an experience in San Francisco in 2022 walking back to my car from an evening show with my young daughter, I decided to became a gun owner. Growing up in northern Minnesota, everyone hunted, including my father, and I took a professional firearm safety training course at age 12.

  • Therefore, I support ownership, basic regulations such as background checks, waiting periods, training requirements for CCW, and restrictions on ownership by violent criminals and individuals with mental health issues prone to violence.

  • Where left-wing politicians will continue trying to score political points by supporting restrictions that will continue to be struck down as unconstitutional by the courts, or that do nothing to actually prevent gun violence, I will spend my efforts developing protocols and fighting for block grants to fortify our schools, get additional resources for agencies to follow up on tips & warnings and help people with mental health red flags, and aid law enforcement in curbing violence in zip codes where the vast majority of unlawful shootings occur.

I hope this helps you understand my general stance..
